A Little Shameless Self-Promotion

I will be speaking on Sunday, June 18 at 2 p.m., at Buchanan Hall in Upperville, Virginia. My presentation is part of a weekend of events marking the 160th anniversary of the cavalry battles at Aldie, Middleburg, and Upperville.

Saturday’s events include an all-day tour of the battlefields, led by Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area Historian Emeritus, Rich Gillespie, several guided tours of the Middleburg – Mount Defiance Battlefield, and a living history presentation at Mt. Zion Historic Park.

These events are presented by the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area as well as Northern Virginia Parks. There is a cost involved in support of the two organizations, but also a beer and wine reception after my presentation on Sunday. And, of course, I will have copies of Small but Important Riots, The Cavalry Battles of Aldie, Middleburg, and Upperville for sale.

Both organizations are excellent stewards of the historic lands in the Loudoun Valley, most especially the battlefields that I will be discussing, and as such well worthy of your support.

For more information and to purchase tickets, please click https://www.piedmontheritage.org/events/2023/amu to visit the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area website.

I will also be speaking in Gettysburg, at 9 a.m., on July 1 as part of the Gettysburg Foundations Sacred Trust weekend of events. This three-day weekend features 15 speakers. You may find full information on this free event at https://www.gettysburgfoundation.org/sacred-trust#July1Talks

I look forward to seeing some of you at one or both events.

  1. It never hurts to advertise and there is nothing shameless about it. It is an educational and worthwhile function.

Will probably miss the talk in Upperville but will definitely see you in Gettysburg.

    Take care out there,

    John

  2. These events would be so wonderful to attend. I will be in Wyoming for one, and back to soon to get away again for the second. Have a great time. Great cavalry subjects and a superlative historian presenting them. Unbeatable combination.
